Not long ago on a walk I asked Jah for some guidance of my Ikigai in prayer, when I opened my eyes I saw the outline of a fedora as a cloud upon a beautiful sunset sky. A serendipitous moment of conjuring magical manifestation.
The vision to create a reclaimed hat company that helps better the world streamed from my heart and onto paper. A year of travelling looking for a new home and learning how to make hats on the road. We received much anticipation and requests for purchasing our hats. Then came a move of country to the Italian mountains. We built a studio immediately and opened up Tahatan Hat Co to sell our creative head attire.
We have uncovered fly fishing outdoor styles in Scotland over many years, local community heritage of survival in Navajo reservations in America, colourful folk art of Peruvians, sexy bohemian authority style of Cape Town locals and patina Wabi aesthetics in Japan; all of which have gone on to inform the design process behind each hat and garments to come. This sense of adventure and curiosity are likewise woven into the brand’s overarching narrative. The amount of appreciation we have for these cultures can’t be measured but we can show it off in our beautiful pieces of art.
We create ethically handcrafted one of a kind hats through sustainable sourced materials. Creating products that are universally appealing and timeless. Expertly blocked, steamed, and shaped entirely in-house. Blending artistry with sustainability. Each hat is meticulously crafted one by one, ensuring a unique and one-of-a-kind piece. Available in limited quantities to preserve its exclusivity.
Our hats honour the cycles of life, past battles and achievements, while also running alongside an ethos of authentic self love and kindness to all. We hand source the hats on regular 'hunting' expeditions travelling the world to flea markets, antique stores or individuals for our special finds. They are cleaned, saged and steamed into a new form. Our hat bands our formed through vintage and up-cycled finds along our travels including luxurious silks, cottons and wools. We combine these with vintage belts, old ammo belts and discarded leather. Adding elements to help people in the wild for fishing or survival. Then we add antique pieces like coins, crystals & stones. To finish it off, we will add local nature or feather elements. Everything is done according to the hats shape, size, colour and story with intuitional energy. For us it's about freedom and authentic practises, while honouring slow fashion of heritage and ethics.

Only a positive collaboration between people and nature can bear fruit. We love giving new life to quality made patina items of the past while honouring each element. Each carefully curated item holds a purpose and the appreciation of beautiful vintage materials runs strong in each VTC piece; and as you peel back the complex layers, a central concept begins to emerge.
We want to design products that age well if cared for properly. Something that is cared for, and something that is not cared for; these two things will yield completely different results. I have to remember to take care of myself, because who I am on the inside will be reflected on the outside. Our way of transferring this philosophy to our products is to show each individual item as much love as possible throughout the design process while innovatively learning and embracing our imperfection.

Founder and creative force behind the brand, Tommy Legge, wants to stand tall as a storyteller, an explorer, and a curator of culture.
Like the legend of the Phoenix, It all ends with beginnings. The less you reveal the more people can wonder. He is a warrior to be here for you. Like the dark side of the cuckoo, he owned his 'sh.t' and now his story of influences is poured into 'h.ts'.
He is authentic but also fragile,
He treats people with kindness but can be emotional,
He has fun in life but knows pain.
He is filled with wisdom but knows nothing.
He is certainly a little strange. He loves that part.
He is imperfect.
He is Tahatan.
My bliss: A fly fishing rod, yoga mat, book, picnic, on a motorbike with my partner and a Tahatan hanging on the side. Coming back home to animals and friends.
